The University of Ghana Governing Council has promoted renowned migration scholar and Director of the Centre for Migration Studies, Prof. Mary Boatemaa Setrana, to the rank of Full Professor of Migration and Social Change. The promotion recognises her outstanding contributions to migration scholarship, policy development, and international research partnerships across Africa. Prof. Setrana currently serves as the IDRC Research Chair on Forced Displacement in Anglophone West Africa and has played a key role in shaping migration governance and policy frameworks in Ghana and beyond.

Rapid urbanisation across Africa and the world continues to place significant pressure on infrastructure, transport systems and urban services. At the 2026 Aggrey–Fraser–Guggisberg Memorial Lectures at the University of Ghana, Imperial College London’s Prof. Washington Yotto Ochieng explored how cities can respond to these challenges through smarter planning, resilient digital infrastructure and stronger collaboration between academia, industry and government.

A simple moment at my desk, two phones, one old and one new, made me pause and reflect on how easily we replace what once served us well. From relationships to work and friendships, we often chase the new while forgetting the old that stood by us. Yet, true growth lies not in discarding the past but in balancing gratitude with progress, learning to value both the stories that shaped us and the possibilities that lie ahead.
